You are currently browsing the category archive for the ‘Summer 2009 CHA’ category.

scraphdlogoOne of the new companies at CHA this year was ScrapHD.com a new digital scrapbooking site. However they call theirs a Hybrid site because they encourage you to do digital and then print and add embellishments making your pages Hybrids in the scrapbooking world.

They have a list of great companies to offer products from, for example Jenni Bowlin is one of them (although I still have yet to find any of her stuff in the Beta version). There are all kinds of things from pre-made theme pages where you just drop in your photo’s to papers, tags, buttons, stamps, etc that you put together yourself on a blank page with your photos creating your own masterpiece.

Now this site is innovative in that it will at launch be a membership driven site, this means that the majority of their users will pay a low monthly fee of somewhere between 9.99 and 19.99 a month, for this fee you will have full access to all of the items on the site thus being able to create from 1 to 1 million pages a month for that one low fee. You will be able to print out your pages on your own or take them to Kinkos to be printed in one of 3 sizes a 5×7, 8×8, and 12×12. Now of course you will need a large format printer to print 12×12 pages, so they do offer a service to print the pages individually or in book style but they recommend printing individually anyway so you can put them in your own albums and also so you can add embellishments afterward.

There is no printing available during the beta test though and not all of the features will be available either, nor all of the papers and elements that will be in the final version. they are really just looking for people to try it out and let them know what works and what doesn’t.

So here is the link ScrapHD just look in the upper right hand side for the link under the large pink create a scrapbook button, it says login or sign up, but hurry because I think there will be a cutoff as to how many people they let in.

Hello again faithful bog followers 🙂 I lied I do have a little bit more info I had forgotten about 🙂 but I so know you love me and my blog you will forgive me and just enjoy this great info coming up.

Ok so I have promo photos of the newest Cuttlebug embossing folders for summer and the holiday series as well that isn’t even here yet. I also have promo photos of the newest Yudu products that will be available very soon as well.

Also one more thing I think I forgot  to post in my other posts is that all the new cartridges are supposed to come out the beginning or the middle of September, the Gypsy should be out about the same time or a little later, same with the things I am about to talk about most are September releases some are available now too. Check out stores for more info on release dates and pre-ordering.

Ok so let’s start with the newest Cuttlebug embossing folders:

Diamond Plate

Diamond Plate

This is part of the 11 new folders that were recently released, I don’t believe they are available just anywhere though. I got them from QVC during a special they had about a month or so ago. I like this one it looks like metal flooring to me, or the neat plating on the sides of the Fire Trucks.

Flourish Frame

Flourish Frame

This is really pretty and could be used for journaling, or on the front of a card maybe with a simple stamp in the middle or the middle cut out and a photo placed behind it? The possibilities are endless.

Journaling Card

Journaling Card

I have to say I honestly am not sure what to do with this one, I know it says it’s for journaling, and I can see using it to make a list or something like that but other than that I am not sure what else I would do with it.

This is one of my favorites, I am loving all these great owl things coming out recently.

Another favorite of mine, I just love stars and these are great, could be used in many different ways.

So those are the ones you may have already seen, especially if you shop at QVC.com or watch it on TV. I know I ordered them and I am by far not a TV shopper, but it was a really great deal. They had all but the cutting combo ones I believe.

So now we have the holiday or Winter 2009 embossing folder additions. I like these surprisingly, but I do like them, they could be used for a variety of projects not limited to just holiday ones.

So that’s what I have for the newest embossing folders for the Cuttlebug. I really like a lot of them, as usual they could be used for more than one thing and all are very nice.

Ok now onto the Yudu Update, I know there aren’t a whole lot of Yudu users out there but I love my Yudu machine, I have made about 20 t-shirts with it so far, I have used it to print on the Your Story book covers as well and I am sure I will use it for so much more as the year goes on. So anyway Provocraft has made some great additions to the Yudu family of products, things that will make our lives easier when it comes to printing with the Yudu.

Here are the photos:

Well there isn’t a photo for this but they have finally come out with 11×14 transparencies so we can fully utilize the emulsion sheets, no more wasted space, although you would need to have a large format printer to use these. You could draw on them or take them to kinkos maybe and have them print on it for you, the drawing thing doesn’t work out like it should no matter what kind of markers you use they just are not dark enough. Although you could also cut things out with your cricut and have a huge space to make a really cute design.

220 Mesh Screen

220 Mesh Screen

They have finally listened and are releasing a 220 Mesh Screen, this is great for anyone who likes to screen print on paper, the finer mesh allows for a better print on cardstock or paper. Great for printing invitations, or programs.

Adhesive Mat

Adhesive Mat

This is what you will need to print on paper and envelopes, the sticky on the Platen is to much it would tear a piece of paper, it has to be so sticky to hold the fabric on which leaves a little fuzz every time it’s taken off or moved around. So they came up with this plastic sheet. It is similar to the Cricut Mat in terms of stickiness, but it can be stick onto the platen and then removed easily since it is smooth on the back.

Emulsion Remover Concentrate with Sprayer

Emulsion Remover Concentrate with Sprayer

Sometimes I wonder if Provocraft has a secret camera installed in my house :). I put my emulsion remover into a small spray bottle so it wouldn’t get wasted and I could spray it just where I needed it. Then PC comes along and makes the same thing, suspicious I tell you 🙂

Emulsion Remover Concentrate Refill

Emulsion Remover Concentrate Refill

They offer just the concentrate by itself for refills, which is good so we don’t have to keep buying spray bottles we don’t really need. or you can potentially use the one you have already at your home so you don’t have to spend the extra money to get a “Yudu” one.
Leg/Sleeve Platen

Leg/Sleeve Platen

This one could be for lots of stuff, including tote bags, and arms of long sleeve shirts, legs of pants. Anything long and thin would be good to use with this.
Toddler/Baby Platen

Toddler/Baby Platen

I am very happy about this one and cannot wait to get one of these, I have 3 small kids and have been using cardboard inside the shirts for awhile now in order to print on them using the Yudu. What I would have to do it cut a piece of cardboard the size of the inside of the shirt, spray it with re-positional adhesive and place it inside the shirt or onesie, then place the shirt or onesie on to the platen. If you do this you have to make sure you spray both sides of the cardboard insert otherwise the shirt will slip and slide on the platen, ruining your hard work.
New Small, Medium, and Large Squeege Pack

New Small, Medium, and Large Squeegee Pack

No more using credit cards and old gift cards to squeegee with, now they will have a 3 pack of the large medium and small squeegees. I am excited about this product as well, I really need the small and medium one, badly enough to purchase a second large one because of it.
The Yudu Accessory Bag

The Yudu Accessory Bag

Here is an accessory bag to carry or keep all your smaller Yudu things in, like squeegees and ink and things like that. I haven’t seen one of these in person so I do not know the specs on it or how large it actually is, I know it was told to me that it is a shoulder bag for traveling with your Yudu (Which is silly because the Yudu itself is huge and does not travel well with that glass panel in it) like taking it to a buddies house to make shirts, or maybe for a fundraiser event, something like pay to make your own shirt with pre-made screens, I am hoping it is big enough to hold the screens as well that would be great, actually really great would be if it was big enough to hold the platens as well but I doubt that will happen. I will probably buy it anyway because I like the look of it.
Ok that was the last of my updates, now I promise this is the last of my CHA info I got, I apologize about this one not being on or before earlier posts, but things get lost sometimes, at least I did find the info and post it eventually 🙂
I really enjoyed going to CHA this year, it being my first show and all it was good in that respect, I will go next year to the trade show with the help of all of you as I need my blog to stay current, have industry related content for at least 12 months and be popular, so keep coming back and checking me out. I am hoping that I will be able to post everyday now that I don’t have massive amounts of information to type in each post 🙂 so by next year I should be eligible for the press pass and get a press kit and also be allowed to photo and video legally all of these things, as well as being exposed to loads of more info and more new products at the trade show. There was a difference between the 2, the Supershow had about 100 vendors there, the trade show had supposedly 600 vendors so there were things were not privy to as consumers, things the press was told about as well as shop owners, the people who needed to know about new stuff coming out soon. So needless to say I will be one of those people next year for sure 🙂
I hope you liked all my updates and like I said follow me regularly I will have lots of cool stuff for you, check out my next post in a few minutes it is going to have a link in it to a great new site you can become a Beta tester for :)……………….

Ok so this is my last CHA post, I have a few photo’s of other things I saw at the show, and the Golden Cricut Machine too, this was a solid gold plated Cricut machine with lots of “Don’t Touch” signs all around it. I took a photo because I thought it was a funny thing I couldn’t really think of who would want one of those anyway, the millionaire crafter who has everything maybe? 🙂

Whose got a Golden Cricut?

I also found some of my photo’s of the Gypsy covers and the Gypsy lying on the table next to the guy who was talking about it and answering all my and many other peoples questions.

Here are some photos of Cricut and another bug during one of the 2 giveaways they had each day, I had collected 8 tickets between my husband and my kids and myself and I didn’t win anything, they gave away a few bags with cartridges in them, one had Everyday Paper Dolls, one had Sweethearts, and one more that I don’t remember. They also gave away a cricut create machine, a Yudu, a Your Story machine and 2 bags with certificates for a free Gypsy machines. I wanted to win something, well anything I didn’t already own so I guess any one of the cartridges or the Gypsys would have been nice. But no I didn’t get called, but I did get some cute photos of the Cricut’s.

Aren’t they just so cute 🙂 Now these next 2 photos are of my son who waited in the Provocraft make and Take line for 3 and half hours to make his sister this tin box thing, it was supposed to be a recipe box and some recipe cards, but to him it looked like a tin purse with a cupcake on the side so he thought his 3 year old sister would absolutely love it. He is such a good kid, he really enjoys doing all kinds of crafts, and I have been thinking about letting him use my baby bug on his own while I am using my E, he used the create machine they had on display that you could cut things from the Kitchen cartridge all by himself just from watching me I guess because he knew exactly what to push and what to do.

Anyway he had been standing in line for so long when they were closing the show, he missed getting his face painted wit the other kids, he missed out walking around more than an hour, he missed doing any other make and takes all for this one, and then he got told they were just going to be giving the kits out because there was no more time, by the time he got to the front (which is where I got the photos at) he was consistently passed over and the kits were given to adults behind him and people walking up around him. He is a very good boy and has been taught to respect his elders and adults so he just sat there while they did this. He did get a recipe card kit with just the cards ready to make that he gave to my mom because she is making a recipe scrapbook, but he never did get that purse like tin kit for his sister. He was sad but I told him things just happen sometimes and we would see what we could do about him making her a purse on his own sometime at home when things get better and we have a little extra money for it.

Andrew 11 (you can see the tin he was trying to get a kit for in the photo)

Andrew 11 (you can see the tin he was trying to get a kit for in the photo)

He was so patient but you can see the sadness as he was being told everything was gone, see the box with the cupcake and the handle, that is what he thought would make a cute play purse for his baby sister 🙂

At least I got him to smile at me 🙂 He had a great time at the show anyway though, he will hopefully be my buddy to the show again next year.

Ok now we are getting near the end of  my photos, I have a few more here of a new tool called the “I-Top“. It is a brad maker, you can use it to make your own covered brads in 3 different sizes a small, medium, and large one. You can use any scrapbook paper you have so you can match papers in layouts and cards. I really liked this tool and wished I would have brought more money with me because they had an awesome deal on it, I could have gotten the tool (which is available in Michael’s right now if your interested) and the large head add on and 3 packs of the brads 1 in each size for 30.00, then they have their own custom made punches that punch circles the right size with the triangles already cut into to make folding it easier, those 3 size punches were only 30.00. This was a real deal I know now since I have seen just the tool for 29.99 at Michael’s. I know I will probably get one eventually I did really like the way it all looked you could use fabric and use these as decorative buttons on pillows too, or use them on wall quilts to add a little flare, or use fabric on them like velvet to add a touch element on your page. Anyway check out my not so great photo’s and some photo’s from their site and a link to their site so you can check it out for yourself. I think every crafter should have one of these that’s for sure 🙂 it’s called the I-Top by Imaginisce, here is a video from the company on how to use it on You Tube I-Top Video. I tell you I cannot wait to get my hands on one of these and all the stuff that goes with it :).

LOL apparently  this was being shown at one of my favorite booths 🙂 it was the Oh My Crafts people, I was in such a hurry I got to this booth at closing time on the last day of the consumer show and didn’t even see it was my favorite online retailer LOL Oh well if I had know I would have talked to them 🙂 Well the show is over and they don’t have the same deals going on their site as they did at the show but they do have a great deal on the whole kit, the tool, the punches, all sizes of brads, the large head, and the tote for 99.00. Please check it out again they have great service and great shipping times and this is the beast deal I have seen online or anywhere. Oh My Crafts I-Top 99.00 deal.

I wish my photo’s of the actual brad I made had turned out but they are too bright and you can’t see it very good, so if your reading this post and your from Oh My Crafts and you have any already made brads from the show if you want to take a photo and send it to my email I will post it on here 🙂

These next few photos are ones my hubby took while walking around with the little ones. Enjoy 🙂

These were so cool, all of this was made from everyday Styrofoam, using a melt tool to cut and sculpt it. They were then painted, I was very impressed with this stuff I could see anyone really being able to do this even if you aren’t very artistic or creative you could do this.

Ok well I thought this was the end of my CHA posts but then I remembered the promo photos I got from Provocraft about the new Cuttlebug Embossing Folders that are coming out and that have recently been released, and also some new things for those of you who have a Yudu Machine too 🙂 So come back I will be starting on that last post in a few minutes.

Alright so I saved the best for last, although that made this the top post so please scroll down through the other posts to see the rest of the photos for the other cartridges being released as well.

I really like this Paper Doll Cartridge it has so much possibility not only for scrapbooks but cards and toys for children, I could even quilt with these too 🙂 They are so cute and there are so many of them. Now remember the photos aren’t 100% perfect because this was the one book being protected by the Provocraft man at the booth, he was standing over it the entire time so I really had to be sneaky to get the photo’s and fast, but they are good enough that you will be able to see the cuts and get your imaginations going. Also don’t forget if you want to pre-order them please go to Oh My Crafts they have an awesome deal on them right now.

Now for the pictures 🙂

Ok so we have come to the end of my photos, I hope everyone loves the new cartridges just as much as I do. I do have a few more pictures from CHA to share I even have one of the Golden Cricut so come back again I will post them later tonight 🙂 Remember to scroll down and see the rest of the posts with the photos from the other cartridges.

Oh boy this cartridge has to be my number 2 cartridge on my list of what to buy from this show, I love this one it has a really great thing on it, but you will have to scroll down through the photo’s to see it I think it’s the last picture 🙂 Oh the possibilities. I will elaborate more when we get down to that one 🙂

Alright here are the Winter Woodland photos 🙂

Winter Woodland

Winter Woodland

I am so in love with these images, and if you look closely the snow is an extra element so these things could really be used at anytime I think, at least the branches and trees.

This is the font on the cartridge, I like it a lot too it reminds me of the storybook font a bit though, but I like that quality about it.

Winter Woodland 3D Village

Winter Woodland 3D Village

Ok so I saved the best for last for sure 🙂 this is a photo of the 3D village you will be able to cut and assemble with this cartridge. This is what I was talking about when I said it looked versatile to me, I think if you changed the colors you could make it a Halloween village, leave out the snowman of course :), or you could make a spring Easter type village or even a summer one it just depends on the colors you use and the embellishments you add around it and on the buildings.

So that’s all I have for the Winter Woodland one I absolutely love this one, I really like all the cartridges this time except for the super hero ones and the Elmoone,  just don’t have a use for them I have boys but they were never really into that stuff, they are more into Hannah Montana and Sponge Bob which is why I bought those 2 already.

Again come back I saved the best for last I have Everyday Paper Dolls coming up in my next post 🙂 so come back soon.

Well the From My Kitchen cartridge is so super cute, I just love the 50’s sort of feel to all the cuts, I am a retro person when it comes to that kind of stuff. My mother is in the process of making a recipe scrapbook, cookbook style to keep all of her favorite recipes in, this would be great for her to do that. There is a nice feature to this one that allows you to cut recipe cards that you can put in a recipe box later, it has little icons or images to cut out for different cooking categories like fish, meat, breads, seafood etc. so you can make a recipe card with the little icon on the top to know where to put it in your box or book. There are also embellishments to make the cards look frilly plus all the cute appliances for the kitchen too.

Ok so enough explaining get a look at these great photos 🙂

I think the colors they used on the cuts are perfect, they really give it the retro look. But I could totally see by just changing the colors you could easily change the look from retro to modern.

So that’s all the photos I got of that cartridge, but I can surely tell you it’s a winner, I would pre-order from Oh My Crafts if you really want it that way you will be assured you’ll get it. They have the best prices and the greatest turn around time I have seen, other sites may be cheaper but your gonna wait forever to get your items, and the owners don’t care about you they care about your money only. Oh My Crafts has gotten awesome reviews and they have some really nice deals check them out.

This is a really neat little cartridge, as far as I know it is a full cartridge with shapes and a font as well. It has the cutest elements for making your own calendars. This would be great for teachers or daycare workers, or even homeschoolers. Heck it would be great to use for at a job too make nice bulletin board calendars.

I did not get pictures of all the elements nor everything offered on this cartridge tht’s for sure, I was pressed for time and figured you would get the idea from the few photo’s I did get 🙂 I also apologize for any blury looking photos, my blog will only allow pictures to be so big and I cannot figure out how to get it let you click on it to see it’s true size, but you can still see mostly everything, if you wish to see a photo bigger and better please comment with your email on which one and I can email it to you 🙂

So those are the photos I got of this great cartridge, I can just think of so many things I will use this for I honestly wish these were available now before the start of the school year. But luckily they will be here soon after 🙂

Come back again soon I am posting about From My Kitchen cartridge next 🙂 It’s so super cute you won’t want to miss it 🙂

I just want to take a minute and thank all of you who have subscribed to my blog recently and all of you who have been faithfully following along with my CHA adventure. So thanks for your support I really do appreciate it and love coming here everyday to see how many people come and find my writing and things useful :).

So there were a few new cartridges that premiered at the show, three licensed character cartridges, Batman, Superman, and Elmo. There were no photo books for Batman and Superman and the one for Elmo was never out of peoples hands so I couldn’t get any real photos but I do have the Provocraft promo photos they released.

Ok so to be totally honest I had to be somewhat stealthy about taking pictures of things in books, I asked if I could take some pictures and was told by the rep standing there that no I wasn’t supposed to do that, that I could look through them and he gave me the sheets for each cartridge but was adamant I not take photos. So with the help of my 11 year old son Andrew we took photo’s every time the guy walked away from the table to help another rep. So bear with me I know the pics are not top notch and sometimes you’ll see my hand holding the book up but all in all I think I got some great pictures, you will be at least able to see and fall in love with the ones I got photo’s off.

I did not get any photo’s of the Sweethearts one though as I could not find the book if they did have one, but I have the sheet he gave me scanned in so you can see the style sheet of designs.

So we are going to start with “Sweethearts” this is a full cartridge and looks nice, it would be great for someone who has a lot of wedding pages, or love themed pages like prom, or valentines day.

Sweethearts Cartridge Style Sheet

Sweethearts Cartridge Style Sheet

Now I have lots of photo’s for all the other cartridges so I think I will post each one individually to it’s own post, that way you can view them on their own. Also maybe it will keep you all coming back since my daily numbers have dropped off just a bit 🙂 I like to know people enjoy my work and get something out of it too 🙂

Ok so this is the last of my Gypsy info for sure, I did ask a lot of questions while I was there and I think some of the things I asked might be important to someone else as well :).

Some things about the new Gypsy, there is no video out port on it nor is there plans for one to be on a future model either so no slide shows for that photo software they are bringing out on release date, and no being able to plug in and use this over a video monitor to help teach classes about designing with Design Studio or showcase things in a class or teach about the use of the Gypsy either, I did ask about an emulator which is a program you could have on your computer that functions basically like the interface of the Gypsy so you can show how to use it, he said they have one for themselves but had not thought of releasing it to the public but was open to the idea of telling corporate about at least letting teaching staff or registered teachers who teach PC specific classes have access to it. (Hopefully not for a fee).

The GDS software can only shadow an image if it is already a feature on the cartridge your working with. The flip command in the Gypsy software is logical so you will not have to write your word backwards first, very nice. There is no hide contouring in this software as of yet either, also like I said in a previous post all Gypsy and CDS files are interchangeable both ways, I asked how the differences between the 2 programs would be handled how would one react if it didn’t have that feature like for instance the grouping feature on Gypsy which is not on CDS obviously, the man I spoke with said it wouldn’t be conflicting and didn’t seem to think there would be any issues, however in his tone he seemed to hint around at an update for CDS that will fix it anyway. Which would be good since this is what most of us have been asking for forever.

Of course I already talked about the photo app program they will have for download when you register I didn’t say before but it is a free add on it’s their way to get you to register your Gypsy because that is the only way for you to get the software 🙂 Sneaky PC.

You will not be able to wirelessly connect to your friends Gypsy and share your designs or connect via a wire directly either you will need a computer of some sort and CDS so you can save it on your computer and then just email it or put it on a usb stick for your friends. You will of course be able to download CDS designs from other people sites too but you will still need a computer and CDS to transfer the files to your Gypsy.

Even though it says that the Gypsy is compatible with Mac’s the man kept saying PC over and over in relation to the exchange and downloading of images so I asked did he mean that it wasn’t compatible and he said yes it was not in relation to CDS.

The Mac compatibility comes in when you update with new cartridge info, for instance say they come out with 3 new cartridges in order to download the info onto your Gypsy when you don’t own the cartridges you would connect to either a PC or a Mac and then connect to a web based application which will download the info to your Gypsy. So it’s a bit sneaky I think telling people it’s Mac Compatible when we all know CDS isn’t.

So it does come loaded with the entire current cartridge library info just like CDS. It has about 4GB of storage on it, no info on whether it will be expandable though. It comes with a tiny USB port for connecting it to the Cricut and comes with a long 5 foot cable, it also has a 26 pin proprietary port on it for the cable to load your cartridges on it, again this cable comes with it and is much shorter.

The Battery is a rechargeable lithium ION battery, non replaceable, and I was told it would last for years, however I was also told if it failed and you needed another unit that you could get one with the same serial number ported to it so your cartridges will still work.

I can tell you the rumor that this was based on a Nintendo DS is totally false, I said that before anyway I have a Nintendo DS and knew the minute I saw the Gypsy it wasn’t anything like the DS except for the being able to write on it and use a stylus, the DS has better recognition software in it I think for the stylus anyway.

Ok one last thing I asked if they tested all sorts of designs on this thing like really complex designs created using CDS could they replicate the same designs using GDS, I was told that he was not sure what types of designs were tested but he was sure that we would be able to do anything and more with this than with the CDS versions on our PC’s, I questioned this because my PC/Laptop has more speed and more memory so ti logically should be faster and therefore would be able to better handle extremely complex designs using many different cartridges, I told him I doubted the GDS system would even compare so maybe this was really for the CDS novice and for children or teenagers that like to scrapbook. He just laughed and said he wasn’t really sure and I would just have to wait until they were released to see for myself. 😉 Interesting when you put a man on the spot how they squirm.

So that is the end of my info I have for you at least on the Gypsy product, I have more coming up later tonight about more Provocraft products now that my Florida Power and Light breaker box has been repaired and I have consistent reliable power and am not using the generator anymore, it was a bad day yesterday to say the least.

One more the retail price of the Gypsy will be 299.99 however I have already seen it online for 259.99 wih free shipping, and if you search on google there was one store offering a layaway sort of program for it. You pay 49.99 now and then make payments of at least 42.99 until the units come in. I look at it as a sort of forced savings, yes I could save the same money on my own however I would find something I needed it for 🙂

Also I did get an exact release date for the Gypsy and was told it would be out in Michael’s craft stores first on October 4th.

Alright let me take some time to get down some more of the Gypsy information I got at CHA.

The unit I played with was a beta so it didn’t have the full software loaded onto it, but it did have the design software on it and at least one cartridge of images to play around with. I was threatened bodily harm if I was to try and run with it though by a very big man 🙂 I assured him I just wanted to play with it for a bit 🙂

It is interesting and different using a stylus to pick things, I don’t like the roughness of the images but was told that would be changed in the final version, I also didn’t like the feature of moving your pen over the image and a larger version floating onscreen it made it hard to click on some things on the sides or on other images next to them as the larger pop up was in the way.

I still wish they would have introduced a free form drawing match system in this software where say you draw a daisy as best you can it would have matched all images that could wither be put together from you own carts or shown you images that were already made on existing carts. But I did mention this and was told they would pass along my info and see if corporate liked my ideas.

The Gypsy itself will hold 7000 cartridges and 10,000 images, however at launch it will only have the capability of 80 cartridges since that is what is currently offered by Provocraft now. You will be able to update the software via your PC and download firmware updates as well. So this lovely mobile device most likely will not fall behind in the world of technology.

Some great things I got to see was the ability to move the images around the mat with the stylus, so if you want to place it in the middle to build it and then move it to the top to save paper or for paper placement if using multiple colors of paper you just touch it and drag it up there. You can change the size by pressing the dots above and below the arrow, you can easily zoom in on your image and again touch the screen with the stylus and hold it on and draw around and it will drag the zoomed screen around.

It comes of course with 2 cartridges loaded, Gypsy Font and Gypsy Wanderings, Gypsy font is very much like Cursive 101 so I don’t think your really getting much there except a letter font right out of the gate if you didn’t have a cursive one, and then Wanderings is a bunch of images, I think I saw a skull, some flowers, some swirly things, it’s really just a basic offering of images I think look very similar to the ones we already have. That said I don’t think this unit is worth the money they are asking retail, 299.99 is a bit much. However they are using the 2 100.00 carts included which makes the unit only 100.00 however I don’t they are thinking about all of us who only buy carts when they are on sale and pay no more than 50.00 each for them. I still think it’s a great product I just don’t agree with the price point. But we also can think of a lot of their items that go on sale right off at launch too so we may see it for 200.00 in Michael’s launch week.

Another feature is being able to rotate images with the advanced tab with just a touch of your stylus, you can also make it lean left or right, flip the image upside down, and flip it side to side. Another feature is being able to group images, so you would select one letter and then touch group and select the other letters, now whatever you do to one gets done to all, like moving them around and sizing. This is great for moving to another part of the mat for cutting after you have finished designing.

When you purchase your Gypsy if you go online and register it you will get an additional software app as well, a photo app that will allow you to view and edit your photos on your Gypsy. The Gypsy has a battery life of about 4 hours, constant and 16 hours intermittent. It is compatible with Mac OSX, and Windows Vista 32 and 64 bit.

It does not erase your cartridges at all like some people originally thought, instead you hook up your cartridge via a special USB cable and upload the content onto the Gypsy, that cartridge then is married to your Gypsy making it impossible to load it onto another Gypsy unit. However the cartridge is fine and will work on any Cricut machine, that way you can load all your cartridges on your Gypsy and go to a crop party use your Gypsy and let your friends use your cartridges directly on their Cricut’s. This is great news in my opinion as I would not have even thought of purchasing the unit had it wiped out the cartridges.

I also love the search feature, I put in simple terms like flower and got a few flowers since it only had the 2 Gypsy cartridges on it, but then I searched for rock and roll and got the skull, I searched for food being vague and got an apple. So it works very nice and isn’t specific to certain words, you could search for a baby bottle or just baby and get specific results or broad results all dealing with baby.

The unit comes with a 12 month warranty so should something happen to it you can send it back in and they will send you a new unit with the same serial number programed into it, this way your cartridges can be reloaded easily. Depending on the damage or issue you may be charged a fee for the replacement unit though, so there are probably limitations to the warranty. If you lose your Gypsy or it gets stolen they can replace it as well with a new unit with the same serial number, at a cost of course.

You can also share your files between your Gypsy and CDS and vice versa, so the cut files are compatible. This is nice for those who do a lot of designing on the go and end up making really cool stuff and want to share with all their friends who do not have a Gypsy, if they have CDS they can cut the files.

All in all I think the Gypsy is a great addition to the Provocraft lineup, hopefully they will put some of these features in the existing CDS software, I am afraid they won’t due to wanting you to buy a Gypsy though. I still only have a few complaints, one being the price I think it’s way to high, 150.00 max would have been better, and two the fuzziness of the images. But those are minor adjustable things, I really like the product got to play with it for almost 20 minutes since it was the end of the show and didn’t really want to let it go. I wish I would have been able to get some video of it in action for all of you but alas I didn’t apply for my press pass in time.

Check back later for more Provocraft info on the new cartridges coming out, which I got photos of the cutouts, some info on the Yudu, and some ideas for the Your Story. Also a little bit about the Cuttlebug, it was a packed part of the booth so had a hard time getting photos and too much info on that one and I got a photo of the “Golden Cricut”.
